IYTC

FOREWORD: A JOURNEY TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

In an era where our mother Earth faces unprecedented environmental challenges, it is imperative that we take action to ensure a sustainable future for the upcoming generations. This strategic plan lays the foundation for transforming our International Youth Training Centre (IYTC) into a beacon of sustainability, equipping young individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to create positive changes in their communities and beyond.
The IYTC, with its commitment of empowering young minds, stands at the forefront of this crucial endeavor. Our aim, as Pope Francis urges us in his message to IMCS, dated 22 July 2022, is to inspire and mobilize the youth to become “agents of social change” and catalysts for sustainable leadership and development. Through this strategic plan, we envision a comprehensive roadmap that will guide us towards a sustainable future, both within our organization and in the wider community.

This plan is built upon a foundation of shared values, including environmental stewardship, social responsibility, fraternity of equity and inclusivity, and economic viability. It draws upon the collective wisdom of our women, men, and elders, the expertise, and passion of our dedicated staff, partners, and stakeholders, all of whom are committed to making a positive impact on the world. Additionally, our strategic plan recognizes the importance of fostering partnerships and collaboration, both locally and globally. By forging alliances with like-minded faithbased students and grassroots movements, organizations, governments, NGOs, CSOs, and coalitions, we can amplify our impact and create a broader network for promoting sustainability. This plan also emphasizes the significance of engaging the youth themselves, as they are not only recipients of knowledge but also valuable contributors and co-creators of sustainable solutions.

The urgency of the global sustainability crisis cannot be overstated. Climate change, resource depletion, biodiversity loss, social inequalities, a world dominated by populism, polarization, post-truth, and the power of digitalization, are among the pressing issues that demand our immediate attention. As accountable stewards of this planet, it is our responsibility to act collectively, decisively, and humbly, and this strategic plan serves as our roadmap toward a more sustainable future.

Our journey towards sustainability will not be without challenges. However, by fostering partnerships with like-minded organizations, engaging with the local communities, and leveraging innovative technologies, we can overcome obstacles and forge ahead. As we embark on this path, we must remain agile, adaptive, and open to innovation. By embracing new technologies, reimagining traditional wisdom in our sustainable practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning, we can stay at the cutting edge of sustainable development. Together, we will create a supportive ecosystem that nurtures sustainable innovation, fosters collaboration, and amplifies the collective voice of young leaders advocating for a better world.
We are immensely grateful to everyone involved in the development of this strategic plan. It is a testament to our shared commitment and unwavering dedication to sustainability. As we embark on this journey, we invite you all to embrace the opportunities that lie before us and join hands in shaping a more sustainable future for our Youth Training Centre, our communities, and the planet we call home.
Let us march forward together, inspire, empower, and transform the youth of today into the sustainability leaders of tomorrow guided by the principles of sustainability, towards a brighter and more resilient future.

Our History

In 2021, as the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) Pax Romana celebrated
its centenary, global tertiary Catholic students gathered to discuss their commitment to
sustainability, peace, and justice. Looking forward to the next 100 years, they envisioned ways
to share their gifts with the world, leading to the inception of the groundbreaking initiative,
“Pax Romana Institutes.”
At the heart of this initiative is the IMCS’s firm dedication to realizing its global vision of
creating a peaceful, just, inclusive, and green world. To achieve this vision and leverage their
unique geographical advantages, the IMCS Asia Pacific secretariat took the lead. T established
the International Youth Training Centre (IYTC) in the enchanting city of Chiang Mai,
Thailand, in collaboration with the Brothers of St. Gabriel Foundation, Thailand, and the Non-
Formal Education office of the Ministry of Education, Thailand.

The primary objective of IYTC was to foster youth leadership, creation justice, and spirituality
of action. By providing a nurturing and supportive environment, IYTC aims to empower
students of all ages through capacity building and training for social transformation.
Central to IYTC’s mission is the development of youth leadership. Recognizing the potential
within young individuals to become agents of positive change, the Centre offers specialized
training programs that equipped them with essential skills, knowledge, insights, and experience.
These future leaders would carry the torch of sustainability, justice and fraternity, creating a
lasting impact on their communities and the world.
